The workshop was part of the efnMobile Workshop series and took place from 23 to 26 November 2015 at the Hochschule Ostwestfalen – Lippe in Detmold. In interdisciplinary teams, students developed concepts and prototypes for the automated building envelope of the future. The students came from postgraduate Master’s degree courses in International Facade Design & Construction (IFDC), Master Computational Design and Construction (M-CDC), and from the facade master of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences (HSLU). In addition to a poster based presentation of the concepts, a special focus was on their realization in the form of prototypes. The implementation of these models was based on digital manufacturing technologies such as the laser-cutter and the 3D-printer, as well as on the Arduino microcontroller platform. The results were presented in front of a specialist jury next to the conference: facade2015 – computational optimization.
